Instant Street Cred ILS

Filed under: Library Science, OPAC, Systems, library2.0 — Jason @ 11:32 am

A library in Ohio just migrated to KohaZoom, the open-source version Integrated Library System. This particular version of Koha appears to be developed by a vendor, LibLime. You can see The system in action here.

Notice anything about it? That’s right, folks. It looks just like Amazon, and it uses Amazon images. Bye, bye, usability problems. Hello instant street cred with patromers.

Needless to say, I want one.

  1. Yea, liblime did a bang up job on that OPAC, the amazon stuff is more than just images, it also syndicates descriptions, reviews, and ratings too. There’s a pretty interesting explanation of how this works here: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.culture.libraries.ngc4lib/1245 by Joshua Ferraro, who works for liblime.

I’m all for open source ILSes, time for us librarians to wake up and smell the freedom :-)
